MFA- Directing, Theater- Brown University
ExperienceI'm an actor and director, and have taught numerous classes in theater, and used to work at a Boy Scout Camp for several years, teaching ecology, and eventually, teaching the teachers how to teach. As a theater person, I am worldly and interested in a number of different subjects.
To me, tutoring is about creating a positive and encouraging relationship, and spark the student's curiosity about the subject that I'm teaching, always finding creative solutions to problems. Ultimately, in any subject, we're teaching the student how to learn and how to use the faculties of their unique intelligence, capitalizing on what they're good at to make subjects that they're not interested in more accessible.
I'm also a person who has managed my own ADHD successfully, such that I was able to get my Master's degree from Brown University. I would love to help students who have ADD or ADHD to learn to manage it themselves.
HobbiesI'm interested in all sorts of arts-related topics, and find the time to explore nature in all of its beauty and awe. I'm an avid backpacker, and have hiked places like Yellowstone, Death Valley, Olympics, North Cascades, Big Sur and scaled the 14,000' Long's Peak. I've run a marathon, and am also an Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver.
I am a particular expert at helping students get that professional edge when auditioning for college theater programs. I'm available for monologue coaching.
